Women Helping Women

This page is a special and ever-evolving space where I will highlight women-owned businesses.

To my way of thinking, there is no action more effective in changing the world than women helping each other.

TRADES OF HOPE

Trades of Hope is a company near and dear to my heart.  I joined Trades of Hope as a Partner in October 2019 and could not be more blessed to be part of such an amazing company.

Founded in 2010, Trades of Hope markets fair trade jewelry and ethical fashion products made by artisans in 19 countries.

When you shop with Trades of Hope, you are empowering women, keeping families together, fighting trafficking and breaking the cycle of poverty.

Elegantees was founded in 2010 by Katie Martinez.  The mission of Elegantees is to restore hope to survivors of sex trafficking in Nepal through job creation.

From their website:

The sewing center employs nearly 20 people who earn a positive and livable source of income that reinforces independence, a healthy self-image, and confidence that restores lives.

HEAL & THRIVE GLOBAL

A family of five in Uganda

Heal & Thrive Global exists to promote justice and champion value for the poor, the hungry, and the oppressed as well as those who serve them around the world.

I was blessed to go on a trip to Uganda in June 2023 with this group to see first-hand the work they do to support single mamas in the Soroti region.

I am a proud supporter of a Literacy Center in Agirigiroi Village - these centers give mamas the skills to thrive and to help their families thrive as well.

I absolutely adore Heal & Thrive's founder, Brandi Lea, and look forward to going to Uganda with her and her team in June 2024.

THE ROOT COLLECTIVE

The Root Collective is hands-down my favorite ethical shoe brand.  I have a pair of their Blythe boots and wear them several times a week.

Founded by Bethany Tran, The Root Collective partners with small, independent workshops in Guatemala.

You can even customize your own pair of boots, and the fabrics used are woven by women artisans who are paid fairly for their incredible work!  How cool is that?

PROCLAIM

Proclaim is an inclusive nude lingerie line made in Los Angeles from earth conscious fabrics.  I have not yet ordered anything from them, but I could not love this more.

This company merges environmental consciousness with representation.  Brilliant!  And much-needed!

Their fabric is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic water bottles.

Per their website, they are "expanding the definition of nude, one ethically made bra at a time."

WHIMSY LOVE

While Nikki and I have never met in real life, I think we are kindred spirits.  Nikki and I were both bloggers back in the day around the same time.  I have always loved her aesthetic and general vibe.  You can just tell she's good people!

Nikki has an Etsy shop called WHIMSYLove that I adore.  One of my favorite things about Nikki's work is that it is always evolving so there are new iterations of it that pop up.

I own a piece of black-out poetry that she did for me as a custom work a few years ago after my cardiac arrest.  I will be sure to share a photo of that here sometime.

Most recently, and as you can see in the photo, Nikki has started making the most yummy macrame plant hangers.

I purchased several minis from her to give as friend gifts this Christmas. I was heavily into macrame as a tween, so I adore this so much.

Be sure to click Nikki's photo to check out her shop.
